Here is a revolutionary artist but we’ll just call him Trills…

He is an upcoming designer and also the owner of HAER BRAIN SCHEMES. He loves working with others and is a very open-minded human being.. not like any of these other capitalist corporate street-ware owners. Even though he is just starting out he’s good at what he does, and supplies tons of originality to the fashion industry.

So, to start out this interview why did you decide to join fashion and start your own company, rather than joining another company?

Trills: I decided to join the fashion industry as my own entity because in a world with thousands of “street-wear” brands its all about pulling your own weight before the big companies in the industry give you recognition for your work or even offer a collaboration. I feel you need a portfolio and being that I’m self-taught I had to take initiative in building my own through the products of HAER BRAIN SCHEMES.

This would be your resume to show other companies and artists. That’s dope, never thought about owning a business like that. Since you are the whole company whom do you contact on a regular basis (clients, vendors, interns, etc.)?

Trills: On the regular basis I come in contact with different musicians that I respect and other designers. I don’t look to others for much inspiration I build on my own techniques so I can collaborate properly with other creative associates.

Seems that networking is your marketing technique and is getting you far. Since there’s biases all through art on what is preferred such as how to act and how to design. Do you think that there are any biases in fashion (gender, age, etc.)?

Trills: We imagine everyone has issues with bias ideas in every field. With that being said, I would agree. Especially when there are many “street-wear” companies trying to apply “high-fashion” concepts/ideas.

Yeah, that seems to be the latest trend in street-wear brands is to add high fashion to make it better. I don’t think that will work for every company out there. What are some of the problems that you encounter at HAER BRAIN SCHEMES?

Trills: The most frequent problems I’ve had with HAER BRAIN SCHEMES… hmmmm… I can’t really say besides incidents with screen printers. I had to out source for that and it’s fucking me over.

People with power like to take advantage of what’s in their reach. Not everyone will have the same image or love it as equally as your will. With all these companies in the same industry as you, whom do you consider HAER BRAIN SCHEMES competitors?

Trills: I don’t see anyone as a competitor since I’m not trying to duplicate anyone’s ideas. I am rather trying to stray away from those competing while remaining relevant in the fans eyes.

You’re in the industry for the art style, not the money. That’s bound to bring success your way. If you can describe the work environment you deal with. What do you love about it? What do you wish to change?

Trills: I love my work environment. It’s mainly at my house or if I’m meeting with others to build on ideas for the future of HAER BRAIN SCHEMES. The only thing I wish to change at this point is the city I live in, since Orlando isn’t very fashion savvy in my opinion.

Planning for future is the way to succeed. Personally, I never saw the southeast, as never really been a fashionable place much like the southwest or northeast. When you’re working, what do you love about your job?

Trills: I love that I don’t have a job. I have a responsibility as an artist to remain relevant in a this digital age. It’s stressful at times but well worth the sacrifice with good planning and blueprints.

Yeah so your job is your hobby and you love what you’re doing. There’s nothing wrong with that. Earlier you brought up the “high-fashion” concepts being intertwined with street-wear. What are some other current trends that you see in the fashion industry?

Trills: The current trends I see in the fashion industry as I said before are the merging cultures throughout the industry. It’s beautiful and full of ugly egos.

Egos are never an easy obstacle to get past or even ignore. I have noticed that it requires a lot of patience for those who can constantly deal with them. When working on HAER BRAIN SCHEMES how much overall flexibility are you allowed as the owner?

Trills: I am not only the owner but also the creative director so everything is on me. I delegate through collaboration with others rather than building a team and managing them. The more people you have to deal with the faster you can expand but when they work for you (rather than with you) there are a lot hidden curveballs. I like what I create so I plan to continue with out someone telling me yay or nay towards the execution of the idea.

That’s different from how other brands usually try to build. A key factor I’ve noticed is that a team is usually looked at as “essential”. But, you seem to choose the opposite. Since there’s a lot of pressure on you as an owner what skills do you believe are necessary to succeed in the field of fashion?

Trills: I think creativity, consistency in change and adaptation as well as a beast marketing scheme will take your far in the fashion industry. While keeping some originality of course.

Marketing and Originality are probably the most important to any brand. Without an interesting variety of products a company will have a downfall in this competitive field. It’s a dog eat dog world. For people who just want to join a company is there any certification, licensing, or degree that you feel are necessary for fashion?

Trills: The best advice I can offer is the last answer I just gave, don’t know how else to describe it. Just remember to be yourself too.
